Poles Apart

Poles Apart
Antartica is nearly twice of United States. The name of Antartica was coined to mean “the opposite of Artic”. Antartica is the coldest area in the world, on the average it’s about 30 degree than the Artic. At the south pole, mean temperature is below zero, at north pole monthly mean temperature often rise/above freezing. At both poles, daily temperature may drop far below the monthly mean. A temperature -127 degrees farenheit was measured in August 1960, it’s the world’s record low temperature. The land animals and plants of the two regions are different. Antartica is the storehouse of about 85% of the total world supply of ice. The icecap is very thick, averaging nearly 8000 feet. If this great volume of ice were melt, the volume of the world oceans would increase, the sea level would risa. Extreme atmospheric change would have to take place for this to happen.
